Speedway to Sunshine - The Story of the Florida East Coast Railway by Seth H. Bramson

Welcome to Pigeon Key Station All Aboard!! Pigeon Key Station is the online store of the Pigeon Key Foundation, a non-profit organization responsible for the maintenance and preservation of Pigeon Key - a 4.4 acre island 2.2 miles west of Marathon beneath the old 7-Mile bridge in the Florida Keys. During the construction of Henry Flagler's Overseas Railroad between 1908 and 1912 it served as a work camp, housing over 400 men at its peak. Designated as a National Historic District in 1990, the island features a collection of buildings, built by the Florida East Coast Railway, dating back to 1907. It is our intention to provide products of interest to railroad enthusiasts, history buffs, Flagler fanatics, Pigeon Key supporters, naturalists, the environmentally-minded, and more. It is our hope that visitors to this site will not only learn about (and fall in love with) this tiny island that played such a dramatic role in the construction of what became known as the "8th Wonder of the World", but become involved in its continuing role of preserving the past and promoting the future through historic tours and environmental education. When you make a purchase at Pigeon Key Station you help support the Pigeon Key Foundation and, in turn, insure the legacy of Historic Pigeon Key.
